The Bittersweet Benefits Of Gentrification

La Cuatro, Santa Ana, CA

I've always wanted to see my hometown cleaner, safer, and inviting.  Now that it is actually happening, it makes me sad to see the old businesses go. Some don't fear the change, "We've been here for forty years, I don't think we will be going away anytime soon." Many just put it out of their mind. When a greeter at one of the small dress shops that caters to Mexican debutante balls was asked if He was concerned about his job, his reply was "What can you do? We are all going to die anyways."

I think I can safely say on my resume that I've photographed "Kate" Moss.

Giants live in the center of the Earth

This gentleman, swears there are 30ft. giants living under L.A. He offered to take me, but then said one of us would have to be eaten by the giants. I wonder what you thought of this man before you read this.

Photo swap 2012, photos by Antonella

untitled

Rhianne's annual Photo Swap, is the equivalent of having a pen pal. Instead of writing to your pal, you communicate through a series of photographs. Language is not a barrier here.

Below, are a few shots out of the roll Antonella sent from Ireland. Her shots are beautiful, I love the greens and the skies. The entire set can be seen here.

Antonella was nice enough to let me cross process her roll.

River Trail

cart
  • Nikon FE2
  • Ilford XP2 Super (35mm)

I took a little stroll down the Santa Ana River Trail and managed to get a few snapshots before sunset.

I have very fond memories of riding the trail as a child. Days when my dad and I would ride our bikes all the way to the beach.  Cycling faster as we caught the scent of the sea air, knowing we were almost there. I would struggle to catch up to him, he was invincible to me. He still is.

Occupy LA with Agfa Vista 200 (expired)

Occupy LA Agfa200

Occupy LA, November 17, 2011

This demonstration had a huge turnout. It started in City Hall followed by a march to the Financial District, where they camped out by  the Bank of America building. This eventually led to arrests by the police after the demonstrators refused to take down their campsite. What most upset the people, was the fact that the police surrounded the building, protecting it from them.

This week I will be posting several sets of Occupy LA pictures taken with various types of film. Below, is a set I took with my Nikon FE2 and Agfa 200 expired film.
